Contracture and tension: how to relieve hamstring strain?

Contracture and tension: how to relieve hamstring strain?

Well-known to sportsmen and women, hamstrings are often put to the test. Located at the back of the thigh, they play a major role in walking, running and most other sports, as they are involved in the knee and hip joints.

A lack of training or an inadequate warm-up session can lead to hamstring injury. Mostly a benign injury, it can nevertheless cut short your sporting season and leave you unable to train for several weeks.

So how do you take care of this muscle group and, above all, how do you soothe the pain? We'll explain!

Article summary

Hamstrings, a muscle group in great demand

The hamstrings are made up of three muscles which extend over the back of the upper leg, namely :

  • the muscle semi-membranous,
  • the muscle semitendinosus,
  • the muscle biceps femoris.

Positioned under the posterior thigh, their contraction ensures hip extension and knee flexion. This muscle group is therefore very much in demand during daily movement. Relatively fragile, it constitutes a risk of injury for athletesThis is particularly true for runners. A lack of training, inadequate stretching and the injury leads to forced rest for several weeks.

The most common injuries

After a stretching session, in the middle of your workout or just after a run, you feel acute pain in the back of the thigh. Depending on the severity of the injury, swelling may also appear in the area of trauma. The most frequent pathologies are :

Elongation

The most frequently observed injury in athletes is muscle strain. In this case, the muscle is partially torn, and the pain is clearly localized and felt during every effort.

The tear

More intense than elongation, a tear is, as its name suggests, a total rupture of the muscle. The pain is very intense, forcing the athlete to stop all activity.

Tendonitis

More progressive than previous injuries, tendonitis is an inflammatory lesion. It causes discomfort when the muscle is cold, when you wake up in the morning or when you take your first steps.

Whatever the symptoms and intensity of the pain, it's essential to consult a doctor at the first sign of inflammation.

Natural hamstring relief

A real headache for athletes, there are natural solutions to relieve hamstring pain and get you back to training more quickly. Rest is obviously the first step, but here are a few tips on how to relieve hamstring pain naturally:

  • The cold : apply ice to the area of injury to relieve inflammation and reduce pain
  • Muscular strengthening : start with gentle, low-intensity stretching sessions, and when the pain disappears go on to appropriate muscle strengthening.
  • STIMCARE patches : Apply the patches to the area of injury, and the natural action of the patches will soothe the area while promoting the regeneration of damaged tissue. STIMCARE patches are made from natural mineral oxides that reflect the infrared rays emitted by the body like a mirror. This concentration promotes blood microcirculation and improves tissue oxygenation levels. Accumulated toxins are drained and pain is rapidly and sustainably reduced. Non-transdermal, STIMCARE patches are a natural, effective alternative for relieving inflammation of the hamstring muscles (follow the " Relieving hamstring discomfort" see photo below).

Hamstring injuries can have serious consequences for top-level athletes. The good news is that there are natural solutions to relieve them. STIMCARE patches help you recover faster and optimize your performance over the long term.
